Fidyah is a religious financial obligation paid when certain acts of worship cannot be performed due to reasons such as weakness, illness, or frailty, or when certain shortcomings occur during the performance of worship.
Your fidyah donations to the Turkish Red Crescent are delivered during Ramadan to people in need in Türkiye and around the world.
The fidyah amount determined by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) is ₺240.

What is Fidyah / What is Kaffara?
Fidyah (kaffara) is a religious financial obligation paid when certain acts of worship cannot be fulfilled due to reasons such as weakness or frailty, or when some shortcomings occur during the performance of worship.
Who Pays Fidyah / Who Pays Kaffara?
People who cannot fast due to health reasons or other valid reasons pay fidyah for each day they are unable to fast, in the amount announced by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet).
How is Fidyah Calculated / How is Kaffara Calculated?
The fidyah amount is announced each year by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet). The fidyah amount is the same as the fitrah (zakat al-fitr) amount. For 2026, the fidyah amount per day is ₺240.
Who Can Receive Fidyah / Who Can Receive Kaffara?
Fidyah may be given to:
- Poor and needy people who cannot meet their basic needs,
- Relatives who are not first-degree relatives (2nd or 3rd degree), or relatives by marriage/non-blood relations,
- People in debt whose remaining assets fall below the nisab threshold after their debts are deducted.
Who Cannot Receive Fidyah / Who Cannot Receive Kaffara?
Fidyah cannot be given to:
- One’s grandfather, mother, father, grandmother, grandchild, spouse, children (descendants),
- Non-Muslims,
- People who are in a position to give zakat (i.e., who are eligible zakat payers).
Can Fidyah Be Donated to Charities? Is Donating Fidyah Permissible?
There is no religious objection to giving fidyah to trusted associations, foundations, institutions, and solidarity funds known to collect zakat, fidyah, and fitrah in a single fund and distribute them only to the eligible categories stated in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 60, and which are managed by reliable persons.
Can Fidyah / Kaffara Be Paid via Bank Transfer?
Fidyah may be given in person, as well as by proxy (on one’s behalf) or via bank transfer/EFT.
When Is Fidyah Given / When Is Kaffara Given?
Fidyah may be given at the beginning of Ramadan, during Ramadan, or at the end of Ramadan.
Kaffara may be given regularly throughout Ramadan, or as a lump sum at the end of Ramadan. Those who have not yet been able to pay their fidyah during Ramadan may pay it after Ramadan. Since the obligation has not yet arisen for a future Ramadan that has not been reached, fidyah cannot be paid in advance for a Ramadan that has not yet come.
